2008 ANACONDA INDIANS SEASON SUMMARY

The Anaconda Indians Baseball Program is comprised of the Capital Region's best college freshman and high school standouts who have all committed themselves to playing at the highest level of competition available. The Anaconda Indians play a very comprehensive regular season schedule which begins in late May and continues through August.

During the 2008 season, the Anaconda Indians enjoyed an undefeated tournament record. The Indians were named Tournament Champions in Vermont's Winooski "Wood Bat" Tourney, the Oneonta Green Wave Classic, and the Monsters on the Mohawk Annual Tournament.

On Saturday, August 2, 2008, for the second time in 10 seasons competing in the Senior Division of the American Legion Baseball Program, the Anaconda Indians were named District 4 Champions. The Anaconda Indians earned the District 4 title by defeating the Saratoga Stampede in an exciting Championship Game held in Amsterdam’s historic Shuttleworth Park. The Anaconda Indians began the 9th Inning three runs down to the Stampede, whom had held the lead for the entire game. In the tradition of the Anaconda Indians “never quit attitude”, the Indians wrestled the lead away from the Stampede and with two outs left in their season, scored the winning run to win the District 4 Championship and qualify for the American Legion State Title in their division.

On Sunday, August 10, 2008, the Anaconda Indians made history in Capital District baseball when they were crowned 2008 American Legion Senior Division New York State Champions. The New York State Championship Game which was held at Delano Hitch Stadium in Newburg New York, was another thrilling competition which pitted, Rome NY's Smith Post against the Anaconda Indians. The Indians defeated Smith Post after an eleven inning contest, the Indians tied the game in the bottom of the 8th Inning and won the game in the bottom of the 11th Inning by a score of 9-8.

The State Championship qualified the Anaconda Indians to represent over 160 New York State American Legion teams at the Mid-Atlantic Region 2 Regional Tournament which was held in Colonial Heights,Virginia. At the Regional, the Indians defeated State Champions from West Virginia, Pennsylvania and the Tournament Host before losing to the extremely talented Virginia State Champions. Virginia went on to represent Region 2 at the World Series and were eliminated by the World Champions in the Semi-Finals. Before leaving the Mid-Atlantic Regional, the Anaconda Indians were ranked 19th in the nation, from a registry of over 5,000 teams in the United States and Canada. No other American Legion Baseball team competing in the Capital District has gone further in post-season play than the Anaconda Indians. The Indians concluded their 2008 Regular and Post-season Season record of 48-9.

The 2008 Indians established a new team record by winning five (5) tournaments in a row!

Winooski Wood Bat Tournament, Burlington VT (Dave Filak set a new team single game record in recording 18 K's)

Monsters on the Mohawk Classic, Scotia NY (5 years in a row)

Green Wave Classic, Oneonta NY
