School baseball: Plainsmen blank Scotties, 4-0

Ian Anderson pitched a two-hitter, and Matt Drum backed the sophomore with two doubles, a single and two RBI as Shenendehowa beat Ballston Spa, 4-0, in a Suburban Council game Wednesday.

Anderson struck out four and walked one, and needed only 89 pitches to subdue the Scotties.

Connor Douglas had two hits and scored twice for the Plainsmen.

Alex Varsanyi scattered seven hits, and Zach Formica collected a triple, two doubles and two RBI to lift Guilderland over Bethlehem, 6-1.

Brandon Peda had two hits, and Ben Favreau had a triple and an RBI as Guilderland (7-5, 9-7) continued its push for the playoffs. Zach Mendleson had two hits for the Eagles.

Jarrett Fortin had three singles, and Mike Fass had a double and a single as Columbia beat Colonie, 9-3.

T.J. Szesnat doubled for Colonie.

Brent Jones held Mohonasen without a hit, and Max Tessitore went 4-for-4 with a triple and an RBI in Averill Park’s 5-1 win.

Sean Egan hit a home run and two singles, and Ben Cassillo had a double and a single to back Nick Gavin as Shaker (7-5, 9-6) beat Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, 7-2.

Danny Maynard homered for the Spartans (8-4, 9-5).

Tyler Graham spun a two-hitter with nine strikeouts, and Brett Getman had two hits, an RBI and a stolen base in Broadalbin-Perth’s 3-1 Foothills Council win over Johnstown.

Noah Martin had a double and two RBI for the Patriots. Steven Forker had a double for the Sir Bills.

Foothills leader Queensbury (11-0, 12-2) banged out 16 hits in a 16-5 win at South Glens Falls.

Brandon Begin fired a one-hitter with 15 strikeouts, and Tyler McDonough launched a two-run home run to carry Lansingburgh (8-2, 9-4) past Mechanicville, 8-0, in the Colonial Council.

Begin and teammates Noah Cipperly and Parker Brostl had two hits apiece.

Joey Campbell’s RBI single in the top of the seventh proved key as Cobleskill-Richmondville held off Voorheesville, 3-2.

Seth Billington had an RBI double for the Bulldogs (3-9, 3-10). Dalton Espesito homered in the sixth to tie the game for the Blackbirds (5-6, 8-7).

Pat Hart hurled a two-hitter and picked up two singles, and Fonda-Fultonville topped Watervliet, 6-0.

Anthony Sinicropi had two hits and two RBI for the Braves (6-4, 9-4), and Zack Valachovic and Brandon Baker both had two hits and an RBI.

Matt Capovani went the distance with a six-hit, six-strikeout effort, and Greg Musk had a double, a single, an RBI and a run scored as Schalmont beat Albany Academy, 3-1.

John Pascarella had a double and an RBI for the Sabres (9-1, 12-1). Trevor Francesconi homered for the Cadets (8-3, 9-3), and Eric Woods had a pair of singles.

Logan Frangella hit a two-run single, and winning pitcher Kyle Pentak had an RBI double and a sacrifice fly as Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk (5-5, 5-5) edged Ichabod Crane, 6-4.

Pat Reilly had a double, single and two RBI for the Riders.

Jim May had two singles and two RBI, Kiernan Briggs hit an RBI triple and Jesse Heroth went to 6-0 as Fort Plain (10-0, 11-0) downed Canajoharie, 4-1, in the Western Athletic Conference.

Fort Plain coach Craig Phillips picked up his 707th win, and shares the all-time lead among New York State Public High School Athletic Association mentors with Dom Cecere of Eastchester.

Jake Moline went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI, and Mike Naughton and Tim Brizzell both had two hits and an RBI to lift Saratoga Catholic (10-0, 10-1) over Mayfield, 11-2.

Bobby Gates hit a two-run homer for Mayfield.

Brad Smith went the distance and had four RBI with a triple, a double and a single to propel Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville (7-4, 8-5) over Galway, 11-4.

Payten Johnson had three hits and two RBI for OESJ. Max Conti doubled for Galway.

Connor Brown knocked in three runs with a triple and two singles, and Robbie Gaige had three hits and two RBI as Schoharie clipped Berne-Knox-Westerlo, 6-5.

Elijah Casper hit a two-run single and a sacrifice fly as Duanesburg beat Middleburgh, 7-4.

Evan Plante, Dom Herald and Sal Fuda joined for Christian Brothers Academy’s second no-hitter this season, and Herald went 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI in a 10-0 Big 10 win over Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons.

Schenectady (9-4, 9-6) scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in an 8-7 Big 10 loss to Albany.

Zach Schellenger went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Patriots, and Jordan Bernacet and Brandon Gwinner both went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Vinny LeClair and Connor McGrath split six hits for Troy in a 14-6 win over Catholic Central. Dylan Pollock had a double, a single and two RBI for the Crusaders.

Zack Shippee pitched two-hit ball over six innings, and Derek Robarge stroked a two-run single as Corinth (6-1, 9-2) dealt Whitehall (6-1, 8-1) its first Adirondack League loss, 6-0.
