Baseball: Mekeel senior Guido delivers a no-hitter

Senior pitcher Tylor Guido tossed a no-hitter and also had a pair of doubles Friday, leading Mekeel Christian Academy to a 15-4 Western Athletic Conference victory over Berne-Knox-Westerlo.

Guido struck out seven. The four runs he allowed were unearned.

Dan Gregory fell a homer short of the cycle for Mekeel (6-5 WAC, 8-9 overall). JP Howard had a double and single.

Connor Brown had three singles and three RBI as Schoharie defeated Duanesburg, 10-7. Logan Largeteau homered, doubled and had two RBI for Duanesburg (2-8, 2-12), and Jason St. John hit a three-run homer in the seventh.

Jake Moline struck out 10, and Mike Naughton had two singles and two RBI to lift Saratoga Central Catholic to a 4-0 win over Galway. Dylan Czarnecki added a double for the Saints (11-0, 11-1).

Pete Africano drove in three runs with a double and single as Bethlehem (3-10, 6-10) used a nine-run fifth inning to beat Mohonasen, 12-5. Justin Cullam had a double and single for the Mighty Warriors (2-11, 3-13).

Ben Cassillo had three hits and two RBI to help Shaker beat Saratoga Springs, 9-5.

Garrett Whitley homered and doubled, Pat O’Brien had a triple and single, Ryan Feeney doubled and singled and Mike VanHeusen had two singles as Niskayuna edged Ballston Spa, 9-8. Grant Touhey homered for the Scotties.

Nick Brino had a triple, two singles and four RBI to power Bishop Maginn to a 12-5 Big 10 win over Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons.

Matt Hamel had a triple, double, two singles and two RBI, and Alex Koshgarian homered, doubled, singled and had three RBI as CBA powered its way past Albany, 15-5. Chris O’Keefe had two doubles and three RBI for the Brothers.

Pitcher Nate Popiel had a great day on the mound and at the plate in Mechanicville’s 4-3 Colonial Council win over Cohoes. Popiel struck out 12 and walked none in going the distance for the Red Raiders (5-7 CC, 6-9 overall). He also had two doubles and two RBI.

Nico Dumas had a double and single with an RBI for Mechanicville. Bruin Smith led Cohoes (6-5, 7-9) with three singles.

Sean Dempsey had a triple and double as Albany Academy edged Voorheesville, 2-0. Trevor Francesconi added a double for the Cadets (9-3, 10-3). David Cardona, Dalton Esposito and Kristian Singh had two hits each for Voorheesville (5-7, 8-8).

Craig Craven tossed six shutout innings in Lansingburgh’s 7-0 victory over Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk. Jarred Jarosz and Nick Cioffi had two hits and an RBI each for Lansingburgh (9-2, 10-4).

Colin Duell had a double, single and three RBI as Glens Falls scored six times in the bottom of the sixth and earn a 12-8 Foothills Council come-from-behind victory over Hudson Falls. Marcus Owens added a double, single and an RBI for Glens Falls (9-3 Foothills, 12-3 overall), which trailed 8-6.

Luke Mancini tripled twice and drove in two runs to help Scotia-Glenville to a 9-1 win over Gloversville. Lucas Terwilliger added a double, single and an RBI for the Tartans.

Johnstown beat Broadalbin-Perth, 10-8, as Connor Rodecker had a double and single for the Sir Bills, while Richie Lee had two singles. Joe Zarecki drove in five runs for B-P.

Zack Parsons struck out 11 as Queensbury (12-0, 13-2) edged South Glens Falls (4-8, 6-10), 3-2. Nolan Huntley homered for SGF.

Anthony Villano tossed a no-hitter as Corinth beat Salem, 7-0, in the Adirondack League. Villano struck out 11 and walked one. He also had two doubles, a single and an RBI for Corinth (7-1 Adirondack, 10-2 overall).

In a Thursday WAC game played in Cooperstown, Tyler Goergen struck out 10 to lead Galway past Middleburg, 5-1.
