Whitley, Zeglen make Times Union All-Star Team

First team

Catcher

Danny Maynard, Jr., Burnt Hills: Headed to Notre Dame, Maynard bounced back from a sub-par sophomore season to hit .396 with five doubles, three triples, four home runs and 15 RBIs in leading the Spartans to the Section II Class A final. A first-team Suburban Council all-star, Maynard also was a Times Union first-team selection in 2012.

First base

Zach DeThomasis, Sr., CBA: The lefty-hitting standout earned his second straight Times Union first-team selection after hitting .471 with six doubles, two triples, one home run and 23 RBIs. DeThomasis, a Big 10 first-team choice, only struck out three times in 85 plate appearances.

Second base

Kolbie Glionna, Sr., Amsterdam: A first-team Big 10 all-star, Glionna turned in excellent glove work to go along with a .386 average, two home runs, 15 walks and 16 RBIs. Headed next to play at Utica College.

Third base

Justin Decker, Jr., CBA: Named as the Big 10 Co-Player of the Year with Schenectady's Jordan Bernacet, Decker batted .514 with eight doubles, one home run, 21 RBIs and just two strikeouts among his 86 plate appearances. The junior also went 7-2 with a 1.55 earned-run average on the mound for the Brothers.

Shortstop

Kevin Smith, Sr., Columbia: A two-time Times Union first-team selection, Smith garnered Player of the Year honors in the Suburban Council after batting .490 with 11 doubles, six triples, five home runs, 21 RBIs and 15 stolen bases.

Outfield

Jordan Bernacet, Jr., Schenectady: Excelled in every facet of the game for the Patriots, earning Big 10 Co-Player of the Year honors with CBA junior Justin Decker. In addition to hitting .507 with 16 doubles and 23 RBIs, Bernacet also went 6-1 with a 1.72 ERA and 43 strikeouts.

Garrett Whitley, Jr., Niskayuna: Also named to the Times Union first team in 2013, Whitley established himself as one of the area's elite all-around players, batting .474 with 10 doubles, two home runs, 25 RBIs and a .569 on-base percentage.
