Baseball: Musk fires no-hitter for surging Sabres

Senior left-hander Greg Musk threw a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts to spark Schalmont over Cohoes, 7-0, in a Colonial Council game Monday.

Chris Hamilton belted a double and two singles, driving in two, and John Pascarella contributed a pair of RBI for the 7-1, 10-1 Sabres. Cohoes dropped to 5-4 and 6-8.

Freshman Stevie Kross tossed a five-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts, and Carter Ducatte brought in two runs with three singles to carry Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk over Voorheesville, 5-0, in another Colonial game.

Matt Ferriero produced a pair of singles for the 4-5 Indians. David Cardona had a double and single for 5-5, 8-6 Voorheesville.

Lansingburgh rallied with three runs in the sixth inning to beat Watervliet, 4-1.

Zachary Walp snapped the 1-1 tie with a pinch-hit RBI single. Tyler McDonough and Noah Cipperly added two hits apiece for the 7-2, 8-4 Knights.

Nick Ferrari’s two-run triple and two singles lifted Ichabod Crane past Cobleskill-Richmondville, 11-7.

Seth Billington ripped a homer and a single, while Josh Tusang added two hits for the Bulldogs.

Danny Maynard poked a pair of doubles, and Danny Purtell and Tyler Dowdle each ripped a pair of singles to back the three-hit shutout of pitcher Ryan Gardy as Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake beat Mohonasen, 4-0, in the Suburban Council.

Jake Walter, Kevin Smith and Austin Lawrence each homered, combining for six RBI, and Codey Piel struck out nine to lift Columbia (8-2, 9-3) over Ballston Spa, 7-3.

Ryan Thomas homered for the 4-7, 6-8 Scotties.

Ben Favreau and Cory Moore each belted homers to pace a 12-hit attack as Guilderland defeated Shaker, 10-6.

Jacob Sturn added a double and two singles for the 6-5, 8-7 Dutchmen. Tyler Hoffman homered, and Ben Cassillo doubled twice for 6-5, 8-6 Shaker.

Garrett Whitley homered and doubled, while Carmen Caruso (double, single), Pat O’Brien (two singles) and Taylor Parks (two singles) added two hits apiece in Niskayuna’s 7-5 win over Colonie.

The Silver Warriors improved to 8-3 and 9-3. Kyle Ruth ripped a pair of doubles, and Ben Contento doubled and singled for the 4-7 Blue Bison.

In the Big 10, Andrew Rouse doubled, singled, scored three times and stole two bases to propel Amsterdam over Bishop Maginn, 12-4.

Brady McGillin doubled and singled, and Julian Gallup drove in three runs with two singles for the 5-4, 7-4 Rams.

Chris Pontiff (3-0) struck out nine through six innings, and Joe Marasco and Eric Wettersten each delivered RBI singles in Queensbury’s 5-0 win over Hudson Falls in the Foothills Council.

Colin Duell scattered seven hits in a shutout pitching effort, and Dylan O’Sick contributed three hits and two RBI in Glens Falls’ 6-0 win over South Glens Falls.

Brett Sarnowski drove in three runs with two hits, and Luke Mancini drove in two runs and also scored three times to help Scotia-Glenville pound Broadalbin-Perth, 9-2.

Junior pitcher Richie Lee gave up three hits and struck out 11, and Jon Heroth singled three times in Johnstown’s 6-1 win over Gloversville.

Steven Forker added a double, single and two RBI for the 7-3, 8-5 Sir Bills. Gloversville is 1-9 in the league.

Peter Muratorri had two singles and one RBI, and Wyatt Whitman added a two-run single in Hoosick Falls’ 5-2 Wasaren League win over Tamarac.

Hoosick Falls is 4-4 and 6-5. Cody Sullivan led the 3-5 Bengals with two singles and two RBI.

John Rooney went 3-for-4, including a double, to lead Hoosic Valley (8-2, 13-3) over Granville, 10-4.

Jesse Heroth belted a home run and improved his individual pitching record to 5-0, and both Tyler Marsh (two singles) and Jim May (double, single) contributed a pair of hits in Fort Plain’s 8-5 Western Athletic Conference win over Mayfield.

The victory gave coach Craig Phillips’ his 705th career win, tying him for second in New York with Ed Nietopski of Bishop Kearney.

Fort Plain is 8-0 in the WAC and 9-0 overall.

Jordan VanNostrand (two doubles, single), Alex Colby (two singles), Bobby Gates (double) and Alex Charbonneau (double) led 3-8, 3-8 Mayfield.

Galway scored four times in the seventh inning to beat Canajoharie, 8-7.

Freshman Nathan Schader scattered three hits over the final three innings and also had the game-winning hit for the Eagles (5-3). Joe Rutkowski topped Canjoharie (5-5) with two hits and two RBI.

Berne-Knox-Westerlo banged out 15 hits and defeated Middleburgh, 12-5.

Saratoga Catholic swept a double-header from Oppenheim-Ephratrah-St. Johnsvile, 5-1 and 2-1.

In the first game, Joe Schmidt improved his personal record to 4-0 and struck out nine. Ryan Czarnecki cracked a two-run double, and Tim Brizzell went 2-for-3 for the Saints.

In the second game, sophomore pitcher Owen O’Reilly gave up an unearned run, struck out six and ripped a two-out, two-run single in the third inning for the 9-0, 9-1 Saints. OESJ is 6-4 and 7-5.

Baseball: Queensbury tops Scotia, keeps Foothills lead

Queensbury remained unbeaten in Foothills Council baseball with an 8-6 win over Scotia-Glenville on Thursday in a rematch of last year’s Section II Class A championship game.

Chris Pontiff was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI for the defending sectional champ and state semifinalist Spartans, and he earned the win in relief on the mound. Eric Daley, Ryan Flansburg and Phil Wettersten each had two hits for Queensbury (8-0 Foothills Council, 9-1 overall).

Scotia-Glenville (6-2, 6-4) got two doubles from Dan Zeglen, while Nick Schaub added a single, a triple and three RBI.

Zach Ahrens doubled and drove in two runs as 4-4, 6-5 South Glens Falls edged Broadalbin-Perth, 4-3, for the Bulldogs’ fourth straight win. Hayden Chapman also had a double. The Patriots (2-6, 2-8) got a hit and two runs from Connor Pingitore, along with two RBI from Joe Zarecki.

Justin Yerchak and Matt Drum both hit home runs for Shenendehowa, an 18-4 victor over Averill Park. Kyle McAlonie was 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI in the win, and Ian Anderson struck out seven while walking just one in 6-plus innings of work.

The Warriors got a double from Chris Amadon, while Max Tessidote was 2-for-3.

Justin Decker went 3-for-3 and threw a four-hitter as CBA blanked LaSalle, 5-0, in the Big 10.

In an Adirondack League game, Corinth shut out Bolton, 11-0. Nate Woodcock was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI, Anthony Vellano had a double and a single, and Cassidy White walked twice and doubled for the Tomahawks (4-1, 7-2).

Matt Espey went 4-for-5 as Hoosic Valley beat Waterford-Halfmoon, 5-1, in a non-league game.

Baseball: Lambert records 450th career win

Joe Schmidt and Owen O’Reilly combined on a three-hitter Wednesday, and Saratoga Central Catholic beat Galway in a Western Athletic Conference game, 12-2, for coach Phonsey Lambert’s 450th victory.

Lambert took over sole possession of third place on the all-time Section II wins list, passing former Warrensburg head man George Khoury. Lambert, in his 27th season with the Saints, is 450-172 overall.

Ryan Czarnecki went 4-for-4 with two runs, and O’Reilly went 2-for-4 with an RBI to spark the Saints (3-0, 3-0) Wednesday.

Jesse Heroth scattered four hits for his fourth win, and Drew Fureno had three singles and three runs as Fort Plain (5-0, 6-0) beat Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville, 10-2.

Cody Logan and Jim May both had two hits for the Hilltoppers.

Canajoharie scored 10 runs in the second inning and held off Mayfield, 11-7. Bobby Gates had a double and single for Mayfield.

Jacob Henes went 2-for-3 with the game-winning RBI in the sixth inning as Mechanicville (2-4, 3-6) dealt Voorheesville its first Colonial Council setback, 3-2.

Alec Hall-St. Gelais and Nico Dumas has two hits apiece for the Red Raiders, and Noah Harpe went the distance on a four-hitter. Dalton Esposito had a double and single for the Blackbirds (5-1, 7-2).

Craig Craven hurled a five-hitter with eight strikeouts, and Luke Fane hit a walk-off sacrifice fly as Lansingburgh (5-1, 6-3) defeated Fonda-Fultonville, 3-2.

Kevin Myers and Anthony Sinicropi had two hits apiece for the Braves.

Carter Knapek had two hits and two RBI to back Dan Burgess, who gave up four hits and fanned seven in Albany Academy’s 6-0 shutout of Cohoes. Trevor Francesconi had two hits for the Cadets (2-1, 3-1).

Cody McCumber allowed five hits with seven strikeouts and singled a run home as Watervliet won its first game, 4-0, over Ichabod Crane.

Joe Wignot collected two doubles and a single, Dom Toma had a double, two singles and two RBI, Anthony Yezzo added a double and single, and Schalmont (4-1, 5-1) topped Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, 12-6.

Matt Boomhower had two doubles for the Indians, and Vincent Viscone had a double and single.

Joe Marasco went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBI, and Brett Rodriguez went 3-for-3 with three RBI to go with five innings of one-run pitching in Queensbury’s 14-2 Foothills Council win over Broadalbin-Perth. Luigi Magliocca had three hits for the Patriots.

Matt Szurek had a double and two singles, Connor Rodecker had a double, single and two RBI, and Joey Henderson had a double and three RBI as Johnstown (3-2, 4-3) beat Glens Falls, 15-2.

Matt McMullen had four singles and three RBI, and a trio of LaSalle pitchers joined on a one-hitter as the Cadets beat Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons, 17-1, in the Big 10.

Jonardy Anil doubled, tripled and scored the game-winning run on Kolbie Glionna’s single in the bottom of the seventh as Amsterdam edged Albany, 6-5.

Anthony Villano went 3-for-4 with a triple and five RBI and picked up his first varsity win in Corinth’s 18-3 Adirondack League victory over Hartford.

Garrett Wright had three singles and two RBI, and Alex Lebarge hit a two-run double to lift Hoosick Falls (3-1, 4-1) over Granville, 10-6, in the Wasaren League.
